Silicone Gel

There are many interesting substances in the world. Many of them have a variety of uses to help the public or to just make things nicer. Some are man made and some can be found in the natural world. One of the most popular substances like this is silicone gel. A lot of people may not know what this material is. It looks like it would be hard like a plastic, but it is soft and easy to bend and change its shape. It is like a mix between a liquid and a solid. Because of these unique properties you can see it in manufactured products we see or use everyday.

If you own something like a cell phone or an ipod, you may already know about one of the products that is produced by silicone gel. It used to make protective cases from phones like a blackberry, to devices like the ipod. They are usually called protectors or cases. If you go to the store and you see a case is made form silicone, it is most likely made form silicone gel. Even though the case is soft because it is made from this gel it still offers a lot of protection. It is soft but very durable. It doesn’t scratch and it is extremely hard to break or tear. Another place you find this gel is in breast implants for woman. It makes the implants soft, but again very durable. Woman do not have to worry about the implant tearing or breaking. You can also find it in places you ever would have guessed. One place you might never have thought to contain any silicone gel at all is in cat litter. Most cat litter today is made of small round balls from the gel.

Even though you may not know about this substance, you probably see it or use everyday without knowing it. If you buy cat litter, or own a cell phone, and any other device like a cell phone, then you are most likely already familiar with silicone gel. It is one of those things people take for granted. People might think they do not know where it is or how it is used, but it is all around them and they see it everyday.
