Silicone rubber material itself is a thermal insulator, so it limits its application in the field of heat conduction and heat dissipation. At present, two methods are generally used to improve its thermal conductivity: (1) Improve the intrinsic thermal conductivity of silicone rubber. For example, to improve crystallinity, the propagation of phonons in the lattice is used to conduct heat. However, this method is complicated and costly, and it is difficult to realize large-scale industrial production. (2) Add thermal conductive fillers with high thermal conductivity such as aluminum nitride, boron nitride and carbon nanotubes into silicone rubber to prepare filled thermal conductive composite materials. This method is widely used because it is easy to process and low cost.

At present, according to whether it can be conductive, the thermal conductive filler used in thermal conductive silicone rubber can be divided into conductive thermal conductive filler and insulating thermal conductive filler. Conductive thermal conductive fillers include nickel, copper, silver, aluminum and other metal particles and carbon materials, mainly through the phonon and electronic mechanism at the same time, so the thermal conductivity is high. However, with the addition of conductive fillers, the electrical insulation performance of silicone rubber will be reduced, limiting the application field. The insulating thermal conductive filler is mainly a compound of metal and carbon group elements, even in the case of high filling amount, the electrical insulation performance is almost unaffected, so the insulating silicone rubber composite material is more widely used in the electronic and electrical fields.
